Giving

We believe giving to God's work, through both the local church and other organisations, is an important part of Christian discipleship.

While the New Testament doesn't provide specific guidelines on what to give, we believe the Old Testament pattern of starting at a tenth of income is a helpful one. We encourage regular, planned giving, and also have an annual Gift Day for special projects. Many members make a regular gift to the church through their bank account or weekly envelopes.

The Offering

We do not take a weekly collection. However, there is a basket at the back of the church, to the left of the door as you enter, for those who use weekly envelopes or want to make a donation. This offering is acknowledged in prayer during the service.

Where Does the Money Go?

The money the church receives goes towards:
  • Providing Sunday Services and Groups
  • Paying for a parish administrator, a youth minister, a lay minister and a children's worker
  • Running the church centre as a resource for the community
  • Maintaining our buildings
  • Giving to missionary organisations
  • Expanding the work we do
A share also goes to the Diocese to help pay for:
  • The vicar's salary and his housing and pension costs
  • Training
  • Advisors for church schools and youth and children's work
Tax Efficient Giving - Gift Aid

If you pay UK Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax, completing a Gift Aid slip allows you to increase the value of regular or occasional gifts to Holy Trinity by 28%, at no cost to yourself!

Provided you have paid or will pay sufficient Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax during the tax year in which you make your gift, Holy Trinity can reclaim basic rate tax and your gift is deemed to have been made net of tax.

If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can reclaim the difference between the basic rate and higher rate tax.
The Inland Revenue requires evidence that you are a taxpayer and that you want us to claim back tax on your donation through Gift Aid.

If you would like more information about planned giving, please contact the Church Office.
