Everlasting Love

Everlasting Love

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2

I love to look at natural beauty in God’s creation and I find it helps me to lift my mind above earthly things. I find trees very beautiful to look at and I feel restoring energy when I take the time to stop and absorb the sight of them. The above picture is one of many beautiful pictures taken by Keith Nurse and you can see a couple of them hanging in the Foyer at church. I also have a copy hanging on my wall at home and I love to look at it. It reminds me, among other things, that God is everlasting, that He is a continual presence in not just my lifetime, but many lifetimes and He is there whether we notice Him or not.

As our creator, God knows how easily distracted and scattered our thoughts can be and how so many things of this world can destroy our peace. God wants to get our attention and help us to remember Him and all His promises to us. How beautiful that God would provide us with so many signposts in nature to lift our eyes up and help us to set our minds on Him!

Psalm 121 is one of many parts of the bible which is very uplifting and full of imagery from nature to remind us to look to God. It reminds us that he is continually guiding and watching over us and that He will protect us. I would like to share it with you now and I hope it helps you to know God’s everlasting love for you:

I lift up my eyes to the mountains - where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord - the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you - the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm - he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

A prayer: Thank you Father God that your love for us is everlasting and you are so attentive to us. Thank you for your creation which reminds us of you and for your word that teaches us of your ways. Help us to set our minds on the things above as we go about our earthly lives. Amen.
