Dragons' Den

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds;
and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened

(Matthew 7:7-8)

I’ve just got hooked on the latest season of Dragons’ Den. On this show contestants come and pitch their business idea to a panel of business tycoons, in the hope that one of them will choose to invest and help them. The panel (or Dragons as they are known!) can be brutal in their questioning and probing to see if the contestant and their business is really worth their time and money. I love seeing the creativity of people and their wonderful ideas. A sun cream applicator that a young child can use without making a mess is a win in my opinion!

For some contestants the whole experience is a happy one and leads to something exciting. For others, they are left deflated and doubting themselves, and no better off financially.

Thankfully Jesus isn’t a dragon! In Matthew’s Gospel we read about Jesus saying that if we knock on His door, the door WILL be opened. If we come to Him, He WILL invest in us, not just His time and wisdom, but even His life. Jesus doesn’t ask us to have things figured out, or have a good plan of how we’re going to become holy. He is ready to invest in us as we are, without everything figured out, without having demonstrated we are worthy of His time. To the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
